Mentally Developing and Enhancing Performance

Sport Psychology is defined as the scientific study of people and behaviors in sport contexts and the practical application of that knowledge. In other words: knowing why athletes perform the way they do and how to help them get them better. In sport contexts, this could be increasing confidence on free throws, acknowledging what causes anxiety of the first tee box, or how goal setting can help in the recovery process for injured athletes. However, this isn't just for athletes as exercisers and performers (dancers, musicians, surgeons, actors, etc.) can also use services provided to help mentally with performance. So no matter your age, competition level, sport, or performance domain, the KITCH Collective is ready to provide mental skills training services to anyone prepared to strengthen their mental game.

Testimonials

William was nothing but helpful to my team. He used different types of strategies to teach us how to mentally prepare ourselves during tough moments in matches. We were able to use them while we played and were successful. William has a lot of knowledge and has personally helped me and my teammates. His speeches influenced us in a very positive way. I would highly recommend anyone to work with him because he can help on and off the court so you can have the advantage before you start a game or match.

As a collegiate diver, I had the incredible opportunity to work with Will. As an
athlete, he helped me transform the way I approach goal setting, practicing, and competing. Will taught
me a variety of skills that I could apply on the pool deck, in the classroom, and in my own personal life.
We covered topics such as self-talk, visualization, goal setting, pre-performance routines, building
confidence, and the meaning of having purposeful practices. Will taught me how to add another
dimension to my training. He is reliable, trustworthy, and experienced. Whether I was going through a
period of recovery or having peak performances, Will was always there to help me sharpen my mind and
keep me focused on the present moment. It was an honor to work with him and I am forever thankful
for the time he invested in me and the wisdom and confidence he has added to my life.

I didn’t grow up with stage fright. I could perform anywhere, anytime. My greatest issue was the quality of my performance. I was dynamic and entertaining, but I lacked technique and some of the other refined qualities of a professional dancer. It wasn’t due to lack of knowledge or practice. I was MFA candidate in the FSU School of Dance with a high GPA at the time I started working with Will Kitchings. What he helped me recognize is that my brain and/or heart was telling me that good technique wasn’t achievable even though I was working really hard on it. That wasn’t true. Also, Will gave me practical ways to access my technique during performance. Things like how to breathe, how to talk myself through a dance, how to encourage more positive thoughts, etc. That was the most helpful. I feel more confident in myself AND my professional abilities. I am excelling in my career as a performer, choreographer, and production manager, so much so that I am able to sustain myself financially. I recommend sports psychology and I recommend Will Kitchings.
— Dance Performer/Choreographer/Producer
I worked individually with Will during my freshman season. He helped me recognizing the weaknesses I had mentally whether it was focus, intensity or even team spirit. He helped me develop certain strategies and routines that helped me get a good mindset when I’m on court and also improve my confidence in difficult situations. Will and the work we did together helped me a lot as I went from being very unconfident at the beginning of the season to a routine starter on the team and getting increasingly better results.
