My Story

It all started when...

This isn't about my education or who I've worked with. Instead I want to tell you about how I came to become a sport psychology consultant. I grew up playing golf and tennis, both very individual in nature during competition. This story occurs on the golf course. After graduating from Florida State University with a Bachelors degree in English, I decided to try my hand at professional golf. I found small tournaments around Jacksonville, FL to give me experience in a competitive setting. After a solid outing leading to a 4th place finish, I couldn't help but think about everything that went wrong. Missed birdie putts, not taking advantage of easy holes, poor decision making, the score I should have shot. Focusing on the negatives led to more issues: added pressure at following tournaments, anxiety about how others viewed me, lack of confidence in my game, negative self-talk, over-training on the range and course, lack of anger management. Through all of this, I tried to find ways to decrease these stressors: took breaks from the game, tried relaxation through music and stretching, a more developed routine before tournaments. However, nothing worked. I knew I had some issues I was battling between my ears, so I searched for a sport psychologist in Jacksonville. Found no one. Eventually, I developed burnout and just didn't have the drive in me for a sport I loved as a kid. I knew my game wasn't where it needed to be both technically and more importantly, mentally.

From the moment I decided to give up that path, I went back to college and focused on becoming what I couldn't find: a sport psychology consultant. I wanted to make sure that no one ever went through the process of looking for someone to help them mentally only to come up empty handed. After graduating with another Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from University of North Florida and a Master's Degree in Sport Psychology from Florida State University, here I am ready to help out anyone who wants to develop and enhance a better mentality when it comes to performance.
